History

Established on February 16, 2017, in the heart of Malawi's Central Region, specifically in Dowa district within the Dzaleka Refugee Camp, the Youth Congress for Development and Social Progress (YOCODESOP) is a beacon of hope for the diverse communities residing within the camp. Originally founded in response to the influx of individuals from various countries who sought refuge due to harrowing circumstances such as violence, persecution, and displacement, YOCODESOP emerged as a vital lifeline for those who arrived in Dzaleka feeling hopeless and traumatized.

Our Origins and Mission

Dzaleka Refugee Camp, established in 1993, became home to a mosaic of cultures, including Burundian, Rwandese, Congolese, Ethiopian, Somali, Sudanese, and others. In this melting pot of humanity, YOCODESOP was born, driven by a fervent desire to catalyze positive change and foster sustainable development within the community.

Our Objectives

Empowerment Through Education: YOCODESOP is dedicated to providing educational opportunities and resources to disadvantaged youth within the camp, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue their aspirations and contribute meaningfully to society.

Promoting Sustainable Development: Through initiatives focused on agriculture, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), we endeavor to foster local and sustainable development practices that improve living conditions and enhance community resilience.

Social and Professional Integration: YOCODESOP works tirelessly to facilitate the social and professional integration of youth, ensuring they have access to support networks, mentorship, and opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Cultural Enrichment and Exchange: Recognizing the richness of diversity within the camp, we celebrate and promote cultural activities and exchanges, fostering understanding, tolerance, and unity among different ethnic groups

Our Approach

- Community-Centered Solutions: YOCODESOP believes in the power of community-driven solutions, engaging closely with residents to identify needs, priorities, and aspirations.

- Capacity Building: We invest in the capacity building of youth through training, workshops, and skill-building programs, empowering them to take ownership of their futures and become agents of change within their communities.

- Collaborative Partnerships: YOCODESOP collaborates with government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders to leverage resources and expertise, maximizing the impact of our initiatives.

- Advocacy and Awareness: We advocate for policies and practices that promote youth empowerment, social inclusion, and sustainable development, while also raising awareness about the challenges faced by refugees and displaced populations.

Our Impact

Through our holistic approach to youth empowerment and community development, YOCODESOP seeks to create a brighter and more resilient future for the youth of Malawi. By providing them with the tools, opportunities, and support they need to thrive, we aim to break the cycle of poverty and exclusion, paving the way for a more prosperous and inclusive society. aliquam quaerat voluptatem ut enim ad minima veniam.
